Selby District Scouts is an umbrella organisation home to Scout Groups and sections across the wider Selby area. At the same time, we are part of North Yorkshire Scouts, and the Scout Association. All Scout Groups, Districts and Counties in England are also independent legal charities, with a purpose, constitution, members, and a set of trustees who are ultimately responsible for the effective and safe management of that charity. Details on the trustees of Selby Scouts can be found below.
We follow the advice given to us by The Scout Association and the Charity Commission to ensure we run the charity as effectively as possible, and when required the trustees may seek independent legal advice. Our constitution is the specimen constitution laid out in 4.25 of the Scout Associations, Policy Organisation & Rules.

Trustees
There are 3 types of trustee outlined in POR. All trustees are equal, regardless of how they became trustees, no-one has any more voting power than any other, and by our rules the Chair does not have a casting vote. The four types of trustee are:
- Ex-officio: These are people who are trustees because of the role they do, like the District Lead Volunteer
- Elected: These are people who stand for election at the AGM
- Co-opted: These are people who are asked to join part way through the year for a specific purpose
The trustees are approved or elected every year at the AGM and serve for a term of 1 year, until the next AGM. If you would like to contact the board of trustees on any matter please email info@selbyscouts.org.uk and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Sub-Committees
To help expedite the work of the Trustee Board, it is helpful to form sub-committees to undertake specific tasks, or look after key assets. In 2022 we established a sub-committee to manage our campsite, Tamarak, and in 2023 established sub-committees to manage Olympia, and to take a more active role in managing our finances. You can see the specific terms of reference for each sub-committee below:
